Exceptional
Craftsmanship

Hi, I'm Dustin Brucher, founder of Panel/Board Design & Assembly. I had to quit a lot of jobs to find myself here, running a small woodworking shop. I started Panel/Board with the goal of exploring midcentury design and aesthetics, and to bring my understanding of Modernist principles to life through the creation of original furniture pieces in a studio setting.

But I haven't always been a furnituremaker. I had to try on other pursuits -- academia, law, policy research, and commercial construction -- before finding my passion. The spark came when my wife and I walked into our empty 1940's ranch home in west Denver. We browsed online and around Denver for pieces that fit in with our mid-century ranch's aesthetic and charm. Instead we found cookie-cutter fiberboard furniture that wasn't meant to survive a move, much less a lifetime.

Baselessly, I told my wife that I could build what we needed and for much less money!

At least I was half right.

I dove into Modernist design books and vintage furniture catalogs, filling sketchbooks with design ideas. Some of them were actually good! And as I kept making, a deep passion revealed itself. Designing and engineering, the spatial mental gymnastics of a cut list, the smell of sawdust, and the giddiness from finishing a piece with no respirator -- they were all I could think about all day.

As I shared my work with family and friends, I quickly realized that there was a demand for high-quality, custom furniture that embodied the timeless appeal of mid-century design. It didn't take too much convincing to get me to quit working as an electrician and fully commit to Panel/Board; like I said, I've had to quit a lot of jobs.

Whether working with period enthusiasts who want to fill their historic homes with custom mid-century magic or… really anyone who just wants durable, american-made furniture, I take pride in pouring my passion into every project. Through Panel/Board, I am able to create furniture that is intentional, functional, and beautiful, while also designing toward the aesthetic and history of each client's home.
